Barnsley vs Ipswich
England – The Championship
Date: Saturday, 12th August 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/16:00 CET
Oakwell will host an interesting game. Barnsley takes on Ipswich Town in what looks an early relegation battle decider.
Barnsley produced a very entertaining midweek fixture. The team knocked out Morecambe in the League Cup after a thrilling 4-3 result. This performance though showed some worrying signs as Barnsley lost they lead over Morecambe and managed to get the victory in the last second of the game through Ryan Hedges.
Barnsley also failed to impress in the opening round. They looked unconvincing at the back last season but after losing their central defender Marc Roberts to Birmingham things have definitely worsen. The team lost to Bristol City their opener. It’s not the loss but the way the team played the worrying sign. Barnsley conceded 3 goals for the first 30minutes all after defensive mistakes and lack of communication in their own lines. Hedges scored again in the last seconds of the game but this time it wasn’t enough.
Ipswich defeated Luton Town in the League cup. McGoldrick finished an outstanding team effort in the 34th minute to give the lead. He scored again in the last minute of the games after running into the penalty area from the right wing and hitting a diagonal shot.
The Tractor boys got some vital 3 points in the league opener. They hosted Birmingham and although many expected City to be slight favourites in the game Ipswich managed to hold their ground and get a positive result. They had some territorial advantage over Birmingham but the game was evenly matched. They stroke their blow early in the second half when Jonas Knudsen found Joe Garner unmarked and he did not disappoint.
Interesting to note is that Ipswich played with 4 at the back while against Birmingham. The Tractor Boys went with 3 central defenders. Smith, Chambers and Spence operated in the heart of the defense while Knudsen and Iorfa provided width.

Barnsley vs Ipswich: Prediction
Barnsley looked very shaky in terms of defense so far. The team manages to get on the score sheet but the problems at the back look to have worsen. Ipswich are not one of the best free scoring sides but given a chance they will convert it. It looks like we may not see a zero on the scoreboard in the end.
Keeping in mind that Ipswich were the kings of draws last season and the recent history of draws between the sides we just can’t ignore that option.
