Barcelona vs Gremio: Preview and Predictions

Barcelona vs Gremio
Copa del Rey
Date: 26th October 2017
Kick off at 00:45 UK/ 01:45 CET
Venue: Estadio Monumental Isidro Romero Carbo (Guayaquil).

The stakes can hardly be greater on Thursday evening when Barcelona will host Gremio in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores’ semifinal tie in Guayaquil.

Both sides have been respectively struggling with the form in their domestic league which puts the entire focus on the continental affairs.

The team led by Jorge Almada is clearly the most pleasant surprise of the competition so far.

They managed to advance from the so called “group of death” past the defending champions Atletuico Nacional and the likes of Botafogo and Estudiantes.

Nonetheless, the Uruguayan manager has a lot to worry about ahead of the super important Copa Libertadores tie as Barcelona have won only a single of their last 11 games in all competitions.

The visitors have worries of their own, mainly connected with the injury of their talisman Luan who has been absent for a while now.

Renato Gaucho’s side has clearly been struggling a lot with the efficiency in the final third without Luan having notched no more than four goals in last ten games.

Barcelona vs Gremio: Head to head

The two sides played each other in the last 16 round of Copa Sudamericana five years ago when Gremio won both legs and went through with 3-1 on aggregate.

Barcelona vs Gremio: Prediction

Gremio are favourites over two leg, but so were the other two Brazilian sides Palmeiras and Santos who managed to score no more than one goal combined in four games against Barcelona in the previous rounds of the knockout stage.

The visitors are struggling badly in the final third and we’d not be surprised to see Barcelona coming on top with a clean sheet win here.

Barcelona vs Gremio: Bets

The second pick is Barcelona to keep a clean sheet at 2.25.
