Venue: Baku Olimpiya Stadionu (Baku).

Belarus will be hoping to get off to the winning start of the year in their first fixture in 2018 against Azerbaijan at Baku Olimpiya Stadionu. Both sides will be highly motivated to boost up the confidence ahead of the start of the UEFA Nations League this year.

It’s the competition which will provide a massive opportunity for these two likes to secure the participation at EURPO 2020 by winning their respective (and by far the weakest) league. Azerbaijan are about to play Faroe Islands, Kosovo and Malta for the place in the knockout stage of the competition, while Belarus should not have much t0ugher task either in the group with Luxembourg, Moldova and San Marino.

The hosts are now led by Qurban Qurbanov who has replaced Croatian manager Robert Prosinecki. Qurbanov’s debut has seen Azers keep a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Moldova back in late-January this year. Most of players come from national league’s champions Qarabag who have had an interesting campaign in this term of the Champions League (two draws against Atletico Madrid). The man to look after is midfielder Afran Ismayilov (three goals in the qualifying campaign).

Belarus, on the other side, took no more than five points in their WC Qualification group, ending at the very foot of the standings (even behind the likes of Luxembourg). The team has shown plenty of holes at the back throughout the entire campaign and they’ve shipped as many as six in November’s friendlies against Armenia and Georgia.

Azerbaijan vs Belarus: Head-to-head

This will only be the third head to head encounter between Azerbaijan and Belarus.

Azerbaijan have won one and drawn one so far netting three goals in the process.

Azerbaijan vs Belarus: Prediction

Belarus have been very easy to break down in November and we see a nice chance to Azerbaijan to clinch their first victory under Qurban Qurbanov in front of the home crowd in Baku.

Apart from the home win, we will go with the hosts to net two or more goals at 2.75.
