AZ vs NAC Breda
Netherlands – Eredivisie
Date: Sunday, 12 August 2018
Kick-Off at 15:45 UK / 16:45 CET
Venue: AFAS Stadion, Alkmaar.
AZ failed to challenge the likes of PSV and Ajax in the battle for the top-two finish in the previous term of Eredivisie.
Can they make it count this time and do better than the third place?
It is hard to say given they sold the star man and last term’s league top scorer Alireza Jahanbakhsh to English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion.
There are some new names in the squad, but will they make an impact?
The first fixture should be one of the easiest of the entire season for the Cheeseheads given they are about to host NAC Breda at AFAS Stadion.
The visitors barely managed to save the top flight status last year only thanks to the rise in form in the last couple of weeks.
They have been on a horrendous run of form during the pre-season and they’ll come into this off the back of four defeats on the trot.
AZ Alkmaar vs NAC Breda: Head-to-head
- The head to head stats favour AZ who won 18 and lost 132 of 38 meetings with NAC Breda over the course of history.
- The Cheeseheads completely dominated this match-up in recent years, winning each of last five encounters against Breda.
- All of last three H2H games saw the Over 2.5 goals FT & BTTS bet “land”.
AZ Alkmaar vs NAC Breda: Prediction
Mitchell van der Gaag has headaches caused by the lack of meticulousness his men showed at the back in latest friendlies. Breda shipped as many as six goals in last two games with Excelsior and Konyaspor. It will definitely be the music to the ears of Guus Til and company.
The Dutch youngster is expected to play a big role in leading his team’s line this season. He scored 9 goals in the previous campaign. Til notched one of team’s two goals in a narrow victory over Kairat Almaty in the reverse fixture of their Europa League tie.
The win counted for little as the Cheeseheads lost the first game 2-0 in Kazakhstan. Now that the team saw an early exit from the continental competition, John van den Brom and his men can entirely focus on the domestic success.
We expect a strong display from the hosts and the main bet will be AZ to win by two or more goals difference at the odds of 2.05.
