Austria vs Brazil
International Friendlies
Date: Sunday, 10th June 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: Ernst-Happel-Stadion, Vienna.
Austria continued to shine after an underwhelming campaign in the WC Qualifications where they only came fourth behind the likes of Serbia, Republic of Ireland and Wales. Such poor record initiated the managerial change as Franco Foda took charge in November last year. The German manager has been doing an amazing job on the bench ever since with Austria winning each of five friendlies under his leadership.
The streak will, however, face a very tough challenge on Sunday when the Austrians are set to host one of the main contenders for the silverware at the upcoming World Cup in Russia, Brazil. The South American WC Qualification winners are also on a splendid streak of five wins and a draw in last six games in all competitions. One simply has to respect it knowing that the opposition in last four included the names of England, Russia, Germany and Croatia.
Austria vs Brazil Head-to-head
- Brazil won each of three head to head matches against Austria.
- The first one took place at the 1958 World Cup when Selecao took a 3-0 victory.
- Austria offered a greater resistance 20 years later when the two sides once again met each other in the group stage of the World Cup (1-0 for Brazil).
- Finally, the two teams took on each other in November 2014 in a friendly eventually won by Brazil (1-2).
Austria vs Brazil Predictions
Tite introduced Neymar back in the squad in the recent friendly with Croatia allowing the PSG superstar to come on from the bench in the second half. Neymar instantly made the difference bagging a superb goal after a solo-effort inside the box. Brazil have thus confirmed the strength once again on Sunday at Wembley. More impressive, a clean sheet against Croatia was the sixth in last seven games for Selecao, meaning Austria could face serious troubles maintaining their fine attacking form here.
The hosts have been almost equally hard to break down lately, but it will be very interesting to see whether they’ll be able to hold the likes of Neymar, Coutinho, Willian, Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino down here. We expect a very tight and competitive affair here with Brazil eventually coming on top, just as they did in each of three H2H meetings between the two teams.
