Austria Vienna vs AEL Limassol
2017/18 UEFA Europa League Qualification – Third Round
Date: Thursday, 27th July 2017
Kick off at 20:05 UK/ 21:05 CET
AEL had the easies draw out of all teams in the opening two rounds of Europa League qualifications.
The Cypriot side first played Gibraltar’s St. Joseph before beating Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn in the second round.
The next obstacle will be much more serious since the Cypriots are about to take on Austria Vienna.
The hosts are off to a disastrous kick off to their Bundesliga campaign.
Thorsten Fink’s men suffered a demolishing 3-0 defeat to Rheindorf Altach in the opening round of the competition and they are desperate to bounce back on Thursday and boost up the confidence ahead of the following Bundesliga fixtures.
Austria played very attractive football in the previous tern of Europa League when five of their six group stage matches ended with at least three goals scored.
AEL used to beat the likes of Olympique Marseille in their lone group stage of Europa League appearance five years ago.
However, the period of their domination in the Cypriot football is gone as APOEL has the supremacy in the domestic competition.
Kevin-Pierre Lafrance and Mikel Arruabarrena are the team’s main stars and they will be the main threat for Austria’s goal on Thursday.
