Australia vs UAE
2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Asia
Date: Tuesday, 28th March 2017
Kick-off at 9 am UK / 10 am CET
Venue: Allianz Stadium, Sydney.
The Australian football team is in a sort of lurch after a fourth consecutive draw in their qualification fixture. The away match against Iraq last Thursday finished at 1-1; and the Socceroos could have easily ended up losing by a bigger margin.
The head-ache worsens for head-coach Ange Postecoglou as the team is unable to do a neat job in defense. They were exposed throughout the 90 minutes by the Iraqis, who could have easily gone ahead and killed off the match in the first half itself.
With another four matches left to play, Australia must win in at least 3 of them. They are currently sitting at third spot in the table, trailing Saudi Arabia and Japan by 3 points. The good news for the Aussies is that three of the remaining four games are played at their home ground.
UAE were beaten at home by a 2-0 margin by Japan in their last round fixture. This was a match in which they had the fair share of ball possession, but failed to create enough clear-cut chances to trouble the Japanese defense. They are currently fourth in the table, a point behind Australia.

Australia vs UAE: Head-to-head
This is the first time that these Australia and UAE are grouped together for the World Cup qualification campaign. The first leg of the series at the Emirates ended in a narrow 1-0 win for the Socceroos, thanks to a late goal by the evergreen Tim Cahill.
UAE’s only previous visit to Australia was during the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The teams met in the Semi-finals of the competitions and the home team eased to a comfortable 2-0 win aided by two early goals.
Altogether, there were four meetings between the two sides and Australia are unbeaten with two wins and two draws. Both draws were 0-0 draws, which means UAE are yet to score a goal against Australia in all competitions.
Australia vs UAE: Prediction
The time has come for the Socceroos to lift the game and deliver the sucker punch. For that, they need to fix the gaps in the defense, which has been leaking goals in plenty in recent outings. Coming back to home fixtures, we can them to raise to the occasion. Meanwhile, it is worth to remind the readers that the Australians are unbeaten at home in World Cup qualifying matches since 2008. This is a streak of 17 matches with 14 of them being wins.
On the other hand, UAE seem to be going through a tough phase. They brave attitude is now neutralized and we can hardly expect them to reproduce the performance that earned them vital 3 points on the group opener at Japan.
This must end in a win for Australia, but they will be forced to work extremely hard for this.
