The World Cup champions Germany lock horns with Asian title holders Australia in their first match of the 2017 edition of Confederations Cup.
Joachim Low has brought a young squad for this tournament with an aim of giving a number of talented youngsters a chance to display their skills at the higher level.
The team is in a mini-transition period after the last world cup with the likes of Philip Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger handing their boots. The stand-in captain Julian Draxler is the most experienced player in the squad, who earned 30 caps for the national side.
On the other hand, Australia are representing this competitions as Asian Champions for the first time. Their three previous entry into the tournament came by winning the Oceania competition.
Form-wise, Australia are performing below expectations. The main problems came while playing away from home. They were seen struggling against mediocre opponents from Asia; and are without a win in three away trips.
Germany are unbeaten in their 10 matches since their exit from Euro 2016 in France. This includes an impressive 8 wins and 2 draws. However, this new look squad played a 1-1 draw in the friendly against Denmark before thrashing the minnows San Marino 7-0 in the qualifiers.
Australia: Team News
The biggest worry for Ange Postecoglou is the absense of Mile Jedinak. The Aston Villa midfielder is ruled out of the competition after picking up an injury in the World Cup qualifying match against Saudi Arabia on June 8.

Australia vs Germany: Head-to-head

Australia vs Germany: Prediction
On paper, the Germans look extremely strong despite having a larger number of inexperienced players. Another reason for this is Australia’ colorless displays in recent games away from their home country. This might not be a classic, but the World Champions are likely to steal the day at the end of 90 minutes of football.
