Werder Bremen will be desperate for victory when they travel to WWK Arena to take on Augsburg in Saturday’s Bundesliga match.
Augsburg vs Werder Bremen: Match Preview
Augsburg seemingly can’t catch a break as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to 1.FC Union Berlin in the first away game of the year; after a tight first half, they conceded two soft goals in the second and failed to convert any of numerous chances.
It was third consecutive defeat for Martin Schmidt and his men which allowed Union to overtake them as they slip down to 12th; they’re still somewhat safe and secure in the middle of the table but should their poor form continue, relegation fight isn’t that far away.
In their home ground, Fuggerstadter are doing decently enough, with four wins and two draws from nine games under their belt; before Dortmund and Erling Haaland stormed through Augsburg, they were on a nice little run of a three pretty convincing victories in front of their own fans.
Werder’s torment continues as Werder fell short in their first home game of the year; an unfortunate own goal sent the Hoffenheim into the lead and ultimately broke down Bremen, making them easy pickings for motivated visitors.
After a nice start of the year in Dusseldorf, Bremen seems to fall back on their old habits as their battle for survival continue. Currently sitting at 16th, Werder is not all out of hope as safety is just one point away, but they must improve starting, like, yesterday.
Florian Kohfeldt’s men are doing their best on the road, as they’ve collected twelve points on ten travels (compared to just five at Weserstadion); their last three wins were all on the side, with the last one at Dusseldorf two weeks away.
So, so many players will be missing out this clash, on both sides. Reece Oxford, Fredrik Jensen, Julian Schieber, Sergio Córdova, Simon Asta, Maurice Malone and Raphael Framberger are all spending their days in Augsburg’s emergency room and with Iago being away on international duty, Martin Schmidt will have a headache selecting his best XI.
Kohfeldt have his fair share of issues, his MIA list isn’t any shorter: Sebastian Langkamp, Benjamin Goller, Philipp Bargfrede, Michael Lang, Ludwig Augustinsson, Theodor Gebre Selassie, Niclas Füllkrug and Kevin Möhwald are all out for Augsburg trip.

Augsburg vs Werder Bremen: Prediction
While Werder do rather well on their travels and have won in the last four games v Augsburg, I think their run will stop in Saturday. Augsburg held their own v rampaging Dortmund at WWK Arena and had the result in the bag before Haaland stepped in.
Before that, Fuggerstadter won here against three relegation candidates (Dusseldorf, Hertha and Mainz), had the lead twice v Schalke before ultimately bottling it and that’s the reason I believe in them more than I do in Werder. Should you want something safer, go down Draw No Bet route.
Goals are almost certainty when these two teams meet, just look at their recent history.
Numbers speaks for them, Augsburg had only one home game with fewer than 3 goals scored, back in August v Union and while Werder did scored only once during their last tour, that was their first and only time in this season filled with ludicrous scorelines. A glitch in the Matrix.
