Atletico and Chelsea set for head-coach swap

Atletico head coach Diego Simeone has been heavily linked with Chelsea to replace Jose Mourinho next season. But the Spanish Red and Whites won’t mind this, as they had set sights on Jose Mourinho as the optimal candidate to take over at Vicente Calderon if the Argentine moves to the other side.

The new investors at Atletico are keeping tabs on Mourinho’s situation at the Stamford Bridge and are keen to convince him to move back to Spanish Capital. Diego Simeone may have a contract running till the end of 2020, but reports suggest that this wont guarantee the Argentine his position if Atletico fails to win titles this season.

After Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Stoke saw Chelsea stay at 16th in the Premier League table in their worst start to a season since 1978/79. Jose Mourinho has suffered 7 defeats, the most defeats he suffered as a coach in his entire Chelsea career. The pressure is looming on his and many bookmakers are expecting his sack soon.

At Madrid, they want to build a team that challenges and end the monopoly of their arch rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona. And look further forward for European glory. In Mourinho they will have a perfect man to do the job cleanely.

Atletico Madrid sits third in the Spanish League after 11 matches and are 4 points below the league leaders Barcelona. And in UEFA Champions League they are doing well in their group en route to the knock out stages.

At the moment, they are doing okay in all competitions they are in. But at the same time, their performance this season has not been convincing as they used to be in the previous seasons.

We have to first wait and see what are the interesting developments at Chelsea in the recent weeks to get a much more clear idea on this rumor.
