Atalanta vs Udinese: Prediction
The Bergamese fell to another Champions League defeat away to Man City (1-5). Rock-bottomed with slim chances of progressing to KO phase, ‘Le Dea’ will shift their focus to Italian top-flight.
Atalanta are doing much better in Serie A; unbeaten in six games, Bergamo-based club is currently 3rd in the league standings with five wins, two draws and one loss, four points behind Inter and one point above Napoli. They will welcome Udinese to Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.
Sadly, Duvan Zapata is still out, Kjaer and Palomino are questionable.
Udinese, currently 11th with three wins, one draw and four losses, overcame tricky Torino side in the previous round. The Zebrete took the lead through Stefano Okaka just before the half-time and successfully kept Walter Mazzari’s side at bay till the final whistle. That was their third 1-0 win of the season. We have seen just one Udinese game with two or more goals, and it happened on Matchday 2. Absolutely ridiculous.
Everyone bar Jens Stryger Larsen are fit to play.
Atalanta are the most exciting team in the league with an average of 4.25 goals on their games. They have netted an impressive 21 goals so far – 2.63 per game. The Bergamese are struggling to keep a clean sheet, though, happened just once across competitions, and they’re allowing 1.63 goals per bout in Serie A.
Udinese numbers are vastly different. They have an average of 1.25 goals on their games. The Zebrette have the best defensive record in the league with 6 goals conceded – 0.75 per game, whilst scoring measly 0.50 goals per match.
Champions League defeats had no impact on Atalanta performances in the past, and I’m hopeful that will be the case on Sunday as well. Even without Duvan Zapata, the hosts are extremely dangerous with Papu Gomez, Luis Muriel and Malinovskyi up-front.
Kudos to Udinese for keeping it tight at the back, but I feel they will struggle to containt the freely-scoring Bergamese. I’ll take Atalanta to bag over 1.5 goals and pick Papu Gomez to score anytime. The diminutive magician has bagged four goals in last three Serie A outings.
