Atalanta vs Palermo
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Wednesday, 21 September 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia (Bergamo).
With just one win out of their first four games, Atalanta will hope to take advantage of an even worse Palermo side in order to slowly working their way up the table.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s project has yet to take root at the Bergamo-based club, who will be coming into this game having suffered a 3-0 humiliating loss to Cagliari. La Dea appeared to be turning a corner against Torino after a hard-fought victory, but all that joy was short-lived as they were no match for a Cagliari side, who, inspired by veteran striker Marco Borriello, dominated the game from start to finish.
Fortunately, Gasperini so far will have everyone he needs available for this match, and even better, Palermo have been absolutely awful this term. The Rosanero, who barely avoided the drop last season are already locked in an early battle for survival. The struggling Sicilian side are just one of two teams yet to still win a single game, and will be quite aggrieved after throwing away a good chance at three points against Crotone.
Crotone themselves are still seeking their first win of their debut Serie A side, and the Rosanero in fact had to come from behind just to secure a solitary point. They will be desperate to make amends in Bergamo on Wednesday. However, their overall away record – as well as general performance – does not look encouraging, despite Roberto De Zerbi’s clear desire to improve matters.
And with club owner Maurizio Zamparini undoubtedly already plotting his next sacking and hiring, the uncertainty surrounding the man on the tactician’s bench surely will not do an already struggling side any favours.

Atalanta vs Palermo: Prediction
With Atalanta in 18th, and Palermo in 19th heading into round five, both La Dea and the Rosanero will be desperate for maximum points in this fixture. However, Palermo will have several players out due to injury. Furthermore, Atalanta have enjoyed the historical advantage in this tie, and most significant, are playing at home. Expect them to pick up their second win of the season, all by a relatively comfortable margin whilst heaping more misery on a Palermo side who surely wish they could re-start this term.
