Atalanta vs Lazio
Italy Serie A
Date: Sunday, 31 January 2021
Kick-Off at 14.00 UK
Venue: Gewiss Stadium, Bergamo.
Atalanta and Lazio will take on each other for the second time in just four days on Sunday when they face off in an important league match at Gewiss Stadium.
The two sides locked horns in the Coppa Italia quarter-final on Wednesday evening at the same venue.
Both managers made several changes to their starting line-ups, but it was still a very eventful contest. La Dea came on top despite Jose Luis Palomino being sent off eight minutes after the break.
Aleksey Miranchuk scored the match-winner four minutes later to push Gianpiero Gasperini’s troops into the semi-final of the competition.
Atalanta have thus successfully backed up the impressive 0-3 win over Serie A leaders Milan from last weekend. They have an opportunity to complete the week with three victories although they have played the likes of Milan and Lazio (twice) in the process.
The visitors, who sit just outside of the top-four in the league ladder, will have calculations of their own. I Biancocelesti picked up four successive league wins to join the battle for the Champions League spots after a dismal start to the season.
Atalanta vs Lazio Head-to-head
Lazio have a better overall head to head record, but Atalanta dominated this match-up in the last couple of years.
La Dea will go into this on the back of three straight victories over Lazio. They scored at least three goals in each of the last four encounters against I Biancocelesti.
At least five goals were scored in all of the last four head to head encounters between the two sides, meaning we should be in for yet another goal fest when they take on each other in this season’s Matchday No 20 game.
Atalanta vs Lazio Prediction
We spoke about Atalanta’s impressive attacking form in the last two matches. However, I Biancolecesti have also done very well in January. They won four on the spin in the league netting at least two goals in all of the victories along the way. It is an impressive spell of form indeed knowing they’ve played the likes of Fiorentina, Parma, Roma, and Sassuolo during the run.
Both managers have an amazing firepower on display in the final third. Ciro Immobile should be back in the team to lead the line for I Biancocelesti, while Duvan Zapata will likely make an appearance of his own. We can just not imagine a low-scoring scenario here and backing Over on all sorts of goal lines seems the way to go.
