Atalanta vs Bologna
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 1 October 2017
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia (Bergamo).
Atalanta will be hoping to finally overcome their Juventus hoodoo as they prepare to take on the reigning Serie A champions on Sunday evening.
La Dea have made an excellent start to their Europa League campaign, which marks their return to continental competition for the first time in over 20 years. Gian Piero Gasperini has done wonders with the Bergamo-based club, who finished in a very impressive fourth last season.
Despite losing several key players, they have done quite admirably this season and have four points from their first two games, including beating Everton 3-0 and drawing 1-1 with Lyon. Domestically, Atalanta are also pretty solid and still remain in the top half of the table.
They will certainly pose a stiff challenge to Juventus, despite the Bianconeri making a perfect start to the season. La Vecchia Signora have won all six of their opening six matches and are coming into this match having crushed Torino 4-0.
However, on the road, they have been far from stellar. They did go 2-0 down to Genoa and were rescued by Paulo Dybala’s hat-trick en route to a 4-2 win. Dybala was also the go-to man for all their goals against Sassuolo, and in that match, Juventus again failed to keep a clean sheet on the road.
With that in mind, could Atalanta cause Juventus some problems? They did manage to draw them 2-2 at this same ground last season, but have not actually beat them since November 2004, when they earned a 2-0 win in Coppa Italia action. One would have to go back to February 2001 to note the last time La Dea tasted success against La Vecchia Signora in Serie A, however.

Atalanta vs Juventus: Prediction
Juventus were unable to keep a clean sheet both home and away in Serie A last term, and their defense has not been as solid this term, especially in their travels. In fact, all three of Juve’s goals conceded thus far have been on the road.
Atalanta meanwhile, have been quite strong up front as of late and should be able to put some pressure on Juve’s defense, but with Paulo Dybala in the kind of form he’s been in lately, coupled with La Vecchia Signora’s other attacking options, that could be just the slight edge the reigning champs need to come out on top.
