Atalanta vs Bologna
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 22 April 2017
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia (Bergamo).
After an impressive draw on the road against Roma, Atalanta hope to continue their push for a Europa League berth as they welcome Bologna on Saturday. They are the first team to successfully nick points off the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico, and presently find themselves in fifth spot heading into this game. Currently ahead of AC Milan, Inter, and Fiorentina, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are just behind Lazio and could overtake the Biancocelesti with a win against an insipid Bologna side in round 33’s opening game.
Bologna are nowhere in danger of relegation, but they are stuck in a rut. A spot in the top half of the table is increasingly seeming to be a bridge too far, and they have a bad record on the road. With just three wins, they struggle to pick up valuable points in their travels, and come into this game having recorded a rather disappointing draw against relegation candidates Palermo.
Atalanta are unbeaten in their last seven games at their home ground. For Bologna, the draw marked the third straight game that they failed to find the back of the net. And without goals, a team can’t win. It’s simple as that. Bologna have failed to score in over 40 per cent of their league games and that is exacerbated by their failure to net in their travels.
Complicating things is Atalanta’s very impressive defensive record. They have kept clean sheets in nearly 50 per cent of their home games, and have conceded a goal in the first 45 in just four of their home matches this term. That does not bode well for Bologna, who are one of the lowest-scoring sides in the league outside the bottom four.

Atalanta vs Bologna: Prediction
La Dea have won three out of their last four games against Bologna without allowing their opponents to score. As noted before, Atalanta have a very strong defensive record, especially at home, whilst Bologna have struggled to come up with goals, so all the signs are pointing to a win for Atalanta as they aim to secure a Europa League spot.
