Aston Villa vs Wolves
England League Championship
Date: Saturday, 15th October 2016,
Kick-Off at 17:30 UK
Venue: Villa Park, Aston, Birmingham.
The big news around Villa Park is that Roberto Di Matteo has been sacked and Steve Bruce a Premier League veteran has taken over. Di Matteo’s sacking after just 11 games was no big surprise.
When Villa were relegated last season to the Championship the only objective was immediate promotion but the club lie in 19th place on 10 points and are a whopping 15 points behind league leaders Huddersfield. To add to the misery they are ten points from a play-off place and two points from the relegation zone. Time is of course on their side and it will be fascinating to see if Bruce can change their fortunes.
Villa has won just one game this season but their home record is not too bad. They are unbeaten at Villa Park. The problem is that they have chalked up 4 draws from five matches.
Wolves are languishing in mid table in 12th position and just can’t find any consistency this season. The club are going through poor form where they have lost two matches back to back. Those losses were to Wigan who are in 21st place and Norwich who are in 2nd place. Away from home they have gained 48% of their total points.
Aston Villa vs Wolves: Head to Head Stats
One stand out stat is that Villa has not beaten Wolves at home since 2003. The clubs have played just 9 times in that 13 year period and almost half of those games have ended in draws. We have seen 75% chance of more than 2 goals.
Aston Villa vs Wolves: Prediction
The home fans cannot think that their team will draw another game. Wolves have been cagey away from home dropping points to teams they should have won against. New manager usually means a fresh start and a win and since Villa have a decent home record even if they are 19th we have to give them our full trust and go for a hard fought home win.
