Aston Villa vs Brighton
England – The Championship
Date: Sunday, 7th May 2017
Kick off at 12:00 UK/ 13:00 CET
Venue: Villa Park.
Brighton travels to Birmingham for a visit to Villa Park. The Seagulls failed last round at home and now they need to chase an away victory to clinch the title.
Aston Villa would like to put that last season behind them. They were dubbed as the hot favourites to win back their place in the English Premier League but failed to deliver the results. Their season started badly with numerous defeats followed by an impressive run of 7 wins in 8 games.
In recent weeks though, the Villans accumulated some losses again probably due to the lower motivation after failing to get a place in the play-offs. Still the team is an excellent host with 6 clean sheet victories in their last 7 games at Villa Park.
Brighton really did surprised their fans last round. It was all set up. The perfect plan. The strongest hosts in the league were preparing for a title winning performance. The opponent was Bristol City which let us just say is not the best team on the road and has nothing to play for as it has already got to safety. It was supposed to be The Seagulls grand title winning party. But it didn’t happen. Bristol struggled from the first minutes of the game.
The Seagulls were controlling the tempo well but up front things were not looking well. The team misplaced some crucial final third passes and the forwards were either missing the target or their shots got deflected. The party turned into a nightmare after 42mins. Josh Brownhill silenced the home supporters. From there on Brighton proceeded to control the game but could not convert any chances.
Aston Villa vs Brighton: Head to head
The 2 direct clashes between the teams finished 1-1 and 3-2 for Aston Villa.
The 3-2 win was back in 2010 in a FA Cup game.
The previous game this season was the 1-1 draw on the south coast.
Aston Villa vs Brighton: Prediction
Aston Villa are really in form at home lately. The think that marks their success is their clean sheets while Brighton struggles a bit away from home. They lost to Norwich, Leeds, Nottingham, Preston and Newcastle. In all those games the team failed to score. Therefore the expectations are for a low scoring game.
