Arsenal vs Liverpool
FA Community Shield 2020
Date: Saturday, 29 August 2020
Kick-off at 16:30 UK/ 17:30 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium.
The Reds qualified for the Community Shield, after lifting their first ever PL crown in over three decades, while the Gunners took the path of the FA Cup to get here.
Either team now has the chance to open their new season with a title, and Jurgen Klopp’s men will have even more reason to come out with their guns blazing, considering that they had lost this competition the last season to Manchester City, and that too in penalty shootout.
Moreover, a win this weekend will mark a statement by the reigning PL champions, that they are not satisfied by their triumph in 2019-20, and are back to stake their claim as the best in England this year as well.
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta will once again attempt to bring his club back to its glory days. They might not be on the same level as that of the current titans of the PL, but an FA Cup triumph followed by the winners’ medal in the Community Shield will be a huge boost for the players as well as the fans.
Suffice it to say that both clubs will be giving their 100% on the pitch this weekend, and moreover, it’s just 90 minutes worth of effort for a title this early in the season, and it’s not a bad trade at all. Keep note that there won’t be any extra time should scores remain level at the end of two halves.
By the looks of things, Klopp’s men do have the edge – a slight one however. They had made a mess of their season this last March, crashing out of the Champions League and FA Cup in back-to-back weeks, and bid goodbye to the Golden PL after losing to Watford in the same period as well.
Their huge egos are hurt, and they are raring to start their new campaign on a positive note. They do have better talent on their roster, an experienced manager, and most importantly, they have had superiority in h2h clashes for the last several years over this opponent.
Still, Arsenal have a habit of upsetting the odds in cup games, but it remained to be seen if they can repeat the same against a full-strength Liverpool on Friday.
Arsenal vs Liverpool: Head-to-head (h2h)

Arsenal vs Liverpool: Prediction
The Reds have been the best team in the country by a mile for the past three years, with only Manchester City being able to provide them with some competition.
Arsenal have not been amongst the best in England at least for the past decade, their aversion to splash money in the transfer market has been holding them back for several years now.
This is quite evident from the premier league betting odds that price Gunners at 31/10 to win the domestic title this season, while the Reds are joint favourites with Manchester City at 19/10.
Coming back to Friday’s clash, Klopp’s men are much more competitive, experienced, and ruthless. Moreover, they are absolutely determined to win the Shield, after losing on penalties the last year to City.
On top of that, they have absolutely dominated this rival in the past five years, losing just once in h2h clashes during the period.
Even when Klopp’s men had lost the sole game against the Gunners since 2015, it was after they had already won the PL title. While the Gunners lost their last two games away from home, and they have kept just a single clean sheet in their past seven fixtures.
As such, expect Liverpool to lift the trophy come Saturday. It definitely is not going to be easy, but they are up for the task.
However, a clean sheet by the Reds is probably out of the question. They are experiencing a loss of form since football restarted, and especially their infallible defense has lost its ‘unbeatable’ aura.
In fact, they have not kept a single clean sheet in their last six matches, and have conceded a total of eight goals from their preceding three games alone.
In addition, they have shown a tendency to suffer a little bit once away from Anfield lately. To quote a stat, they were winless in six of their former eight road trips, and had lost five of these games as well.
Considering this is just a single-leg tie, with a title on the line, the Gunners will surely give their everything on the pitch, and should find the back of the net at least once.
Moreover, meetings between these two have regularly provided goal-fests.
To put it precisely, 13 of the past 15 overall h2h clashes saw both teams scoring goals, while nine of the preceding ten such encounters had three or more goals. As such, BTTS seems like a promising bet this Saturday.
