Argentina vs Chile
Date: Saturday, 6 July 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Corinthians Arena.
These two were so close to providing the same final in this competition for the third time in a row but fell at the last hurdle before that. The loss must be more hurting to the Albiceleste, considering the dreams they had attached to this trophy.
Against arch-rivals Brazil, the team faced a 2-0 loss and once again, their misery in the international arena continued. It’d be hard for them now to pick themselves up from the dirt and line up for the third-place match, or in other words – the losers’ final.
The mentally broken players really would deserve credit if they show up with intent for this game, but considering the expectations and pressure they were under, it’s an unrealistic prospect.
In the other semifinal, the two-time defending champions were unceremoniously booted out of the tournament by Peru of all squads. Alexis Sanchez’s side could have progressed without much incident but had to endure a 3-0 loss. To add insult to injury, Eduardo Vargas’s Panenka penalty was easily saved by the keeper, which kind of summed up the evening’s story for the Chileans.
After failing to qualify for the World Cup from the CONMEBOL, the team wanted to make a deep and impactful run in the Copas, but their story ended in heartbreak. It would have hurt less had it been against a more accomplished side.

Argentina vs Chile Prediction
The third-place match in any tournament is a painful affair. Players just want to be done with all the formalities, and get back to the safety of their homes, but after heartbreak at the penultimate stage, they have to line up for a meaningless prize.
Both these sets of players desperately wanted the title for their own reasons but will have to settle for an unglamorous third or fourth place finish.
It’d be too demanding to expect the game to be highly thrilling, and it certainly will be not fair to ask the players to put their heart out on the pitch in this game.
A brawny, thuggish ninety minutes is on the cards, and frustration and annoyance definitely will be on display.
Talent-wise, the Chileans have the upper hand, disregarding few stalwarts in the opposite half. Also, the former has a more set squad, and have the experience of playing longer with each other, and have handled much more high-pressure situations earlier.
As such, the current champions should avoid a loss, and against a mentally-depleted Argentine team, it’s the expected outcome.
Regarding goals though, the Albiceleste defense should hold up their end. A general trend for the side has been – the backline to outshine the offense. Also, the group captained by Gary Medel failed to net a single goal in the last three games in the tournament, and especially in their last two encounters against this opponent.
With these in mind, a low goal-scoring affair is on the cards.
