Anzhi vs Rubin Kazan’
Russia – Premier League
Date: Friday, 2 March 2018
Kick-Off at 16:30 UK
Venue: Anzhi-Arena (Kaspiysk).
Russian Premier League is back in action after a lengthy winter break with the clash between Anzhi and Rubin Kazan’ on Friday afternoon at Anzhi-Arena. The Eagles have had a dismal campaign in the first half of the season and they look to be destined for the relegation battle until the end of the campaign. Anzhi currently sit second rom bottom in the Premier League standings, but a win here could move them out from the red zone.
The hosts have picked up two clean sheet wins in their mid-season friendlies against Sumqayit and Dinamo Minsk. The Belarusian manager Vadim Skripchenko hs managed to instill the fighting spirit into his men in the most recent set of league fixtures, particularly in front of the home fans where Anzhi have won two, drawn one and lost one of last four matches in the Premier League. The streak includes the 2-2 draw with the likes of Zenit and an impressive attacking showing in the 4-0 thumping of SKA Khabarovsk back in December last year.
Rubin have made plenty of changes to their squad during the winter break. The most important departure is the one of Maxime Lestienne who signed for Primera Division strugglers Malaga in a free transfer, while a lot is expected from the former Rostov midfielder Pavel Mogilevets who is the most appealing of acquisitions. Rubin have been pretty impressive in mid-season friendlies netting eight goals in three matches with Norwegian rivals Valerenga, Lillestrom and Rosenborg.
Anzhi vs Rubin Kazan’: Head-to-head
The teams have seven wins apiece ahead of their 16th head to head encounter.
Rubin were ruthless in this term’s clash at Kazan’ Arena beating the Eagles 6-0 back in August last year.
Three of last five H2H matches have seen both teams on the scoreline.
Anzhi vs Rubin Kazan’: Prediction
Rubin have been struggling for results on travels in this term of Premier League.
The team led by Kurban Berdyev have only won 1 of last 6 away matches in the league, and given they are now up against a highly-motivated side which has lost one of last four home fixtures in the competition, we do find the value in backing the hosts not to lose at 1.66.
