Angers vs Nice: 2016/17 French Ligue 1 Match Preview, Team News, Head-to-Head Stats, Form Guide, Statistical Prediction, Bet Tips
Angers finished ninth in Ligue 1 last season in their first season after gaining promotion. It is a considerably good achievement for a team which had spend eight years in the second division. However they stay in the top flight was short lived on the two previous occasions they got promoted to Ligue 1.
The les scoistes started their new season with a 1-0 away loss to Montpellier, which by all means was a rather unlucky defeat. They must be keen to bounce back with a win when Nice comes to town. Also with limited activity in the summer transfer window, their chances of achieving a respectable finish this season will depend of their home results.
Nice on the other hand kicked off their season with a 1-0 win over Rennes. But they were made to work hard by the visitors and defender Malang Sarr scored the only goal mid-way through the second half.
Nice finished fifth last season and were in the contest for a Champions League spot all through out the season. But a couple of bad results at the last few weeks of the season let Monaco and Lyon overtake them by 2 points.
Angers vs Nice: Head-to-Head Stats
Angers and Nice had met on five previous occasions in a competitive match, with four of them coming in Ligue 1. Nice narrowly edge the head-to-head record with 2 wins against Angers’ 1 win, while 2 matches ended in draws.
Angers are undefeated in three home matches against Nice, with 1 win and 2 draws. The same fixture of last season finished with a score-line of 1-1.
Angers vs Nice: Prediction
Nice had an excellent 2015/16 season, but the departures of their start players like Hatem Ben Arfa and Nampalys Mendy are voids they couldn’t fill in the summer transfer. It is unlikely that they replicated a similar run like in last season. Moreover their last 12 away matches in the league produced just 2 wins.
But Angers’ home record in the latter part of last season is nothing to write about. They had won only twice in the last 11 home games, losing 7. This could be a safety come first affair for them and they will sit back and take the attack on the counter. But their three match unbeaten run against Nice suggest that they could come out with at least a point from this fixture. So the better bet for this match is to back the home side on a double chance.
The defensive vulnerabilities of both side could cause the match to see over 2.5 goals.
Angers vs Nice: Bet Tips
