Anderlecht vs Sporting Charleroi Match Preview and Predictions

Anderlecht vs Sporting Charleroi
Belgium – First Division A
Date: Sunday, 29 April 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK
Venue: Stade Constant Vanden Stock (Bruxelles).

Anderlecht looked to be on track to challenge the title when they defeated table-toppers Club Brugge three weeks ago, but they failed to back up such fine start to the Championship Round losing the following two ties to Standard Liege and Genk.

Sporting are now seven points short of the leaders and the best they can do in the remaining five games of the campaign in saving the second-place and booking the Championship League appearance (looking from this perspective). The team led by Hein Vanhaezebrouck sits just two points above Standard in third and they will be desperate to bounce back from the mentioned losses and clinch the spoils against the rock-bottomed Sporting Charleroi on Sunday at Stade Constant Vanden Stock.

The visitors may be sitting at the very foot of the Championship Round standings, but they are still just four points below Anderlecht and an upset here would bring them back in the contest for the European football next year.

Anderlecht vs Sporting Charleroi: Head-to-head

Anderlecht came on top when the two teams met at the start of the month at Stade du Pays de Charleroi.

Ryota Morioka and Lukasz Teodorczyk bagged goals in a 1-2 victory back then for Sporting.

Overall, the Zebras only won 4 and lost as many as 19 of 24 matches at Stade Constant Vanden Stock.

One of these wins, however, came on their previous visit to the capital when Charleroi bagged three goals past Anderlecht.

Anderlecht vs Sporting Charleroi: Prediction

Felice Mazzu’s men may have won the last weekend’s clash with Gent (their maiden win in the Championship Round), but they have been just dreadful on travels in the most recent First Division A games. Charleroi lost five and drew two of last seven games on the road failing to score at all in last three away losses to Kortrijk, Standard Liege and Club Brugge.

Given they are now up against the second-placed Anderlecht who won three of last four home matches in the competition, we have to fancy the 1.66 odds offered for the home win here. The value is also nice in backing Anderlecht to keep a clean sheet at 2.25.
