The UEFA Europa Conference League third qualifying round tie between Anderlecht and Laci is all but closed after the superb showing from the Belgian powerhouse in the first leg on Albanian soil. This reverse fixture remains only a formality.
Anderlecht got the job done in the first leg of this tie, scoring three unanswered goals in a dominant performance against Albanian side Laci.
It was an expected outcome after all, considering the obvious gulf in quality between the two outfits.
Laci are still enjoying their historical European journey. They have never before been in the third qualifying round of any continental competition.
Solid defense was the main catalyst to the team’s success this summer as the Albanians shipped only one goal in four qualifying matches against Podgorica and Universitatea Craiova in the opening two rounds.
Nevertheless, such fine defensive showings counted for little when Shoetim Duro’s troops came across the Belgian powerhouse.
To make things worse for Laci, Anderlecht had claimed just one point from the two opening games of the new First Division A season.
Vincent Kompany’s men were highly motivated to get a result in Albania. It proved to be a momentum-shifter for Anderlecht who went on to demolish recently-promoted Seraing 3-0 at home on Sunday (the team’s first league win of the season).
Isaac Thelin bagged his first goal of the campaign, while Sergio Gomez and Benito Raman also produced decent showings on the occasion.
