Chelsea are edging closer to complete the signing of Alexandre Pato from Brazilian club Corinthians.
The 26-year old could initially move to Stamford Bridge with an option to make it permanent on a three-year deal for a transfer fee of £8 million.
The former AC Milan striker wants to play in the English Premier League and rejected a lucrative offer from the Chinese second division side Tianjin Quanjian earlier this month.
Since then, his agents have offered the player’s availability to a number of Premier League clubs including the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham.
Chelsea would like to complete the deal before the London derby against Arsenal on Friday, but as the player will need a work permit, this could be delayed by a few more days.
Pato has not played a competitive match since November and may be ready for first team action as he may need time to return to full fitness.
Radamel Falcao’s loan deal could be cut short and he is expected to return to his parent club AS Monaco, while Loic Remy is set to stay, despite the lack of regular football.
The Stamford Bridge outfit is also keeping tabs on Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Alex Teixeira, but the talks have stalled as both clubs have failed to reach a fee for the player.
Pato has made 27 appearances for Brazil, but is yet to make into the squad since 2013.
