The Armenian outfit Alashkert FC put themselves in a commanding position for the reverse leg after holding BATE Borisov for a 1-1 draw in the away leg. With a strong home record on their back, they got all ingredients in their shelves to trouble the Belarusian visitors.
It was expected to be an easy ride for BATE when the teams met at the Borisov Arena last week. The Belarusian club looked positive throughout the first half and broke the stubborn defense to earn a 1-0 lead in the first half. However, some poor decision making in the final third come to their downfall later in the match. Alashkert have been largely anonymous in going forward. The visitors didn’t register a single shot on goal. But to their rescue came an own goal with 12 minutes left on the clock.
Alashkert will be positive after earning a draw in the first leg. They are unbeaten at Yerevan in previous five European games. The record is pretty solid with 4 wins and a draw in it.
Despite qualifying for the Champions League group phase on four previous occasions, BATE have a poor record on the road. Their last away win in the competition came at Lille on 2009. Since then, they drew 6 and lost 11 from the last 17 matches.
