AC Milan vs Napoli
Italy – Coppa Italia
Date: Tuesday, 29th January 2019
Kick-off at 19.45 UK/ 20.45 CET
Venue: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro).
There was a time when European Football meant AC Milan. Their fall from grace was absolutely disheartening for the romantics of the sport. The proud club, where once, titans like Paolo Maldini and Franco Baresi dropped sweat and blood, is almost close to ruins compared to their old glory.
The team has been trying to climb back to the throne they once so elegantly adorned. Former player, and current manager, Gennaro Gattuso has succeeded in instilling that old win-or-die attitude into the players.
Gli Azzurri, under the watchful eyes of Carlo Ancelotti, has been doing wonders in the football circuit. Especially with the presence of Kalidou Koulibaly in their midst, they have become defensively far superior. It’s no wonder that rumors are alive that the player will be the first defender to cross the one hundred million Euros price-tag.
In the Round of 16 of the tournament, I Rossoneri recorded an away win against one of the front-runners for a top-four finish this season, Sampdoria. The victory was a comprehensive one with a 0-2 scoreline as the final whistle blew.
The Parthenopeans had the advantage of the backing of the home crowd, in their 1/8 finals and used it wisely against Sassuolo, to ensure a spot in the next round. The team too registered a 2-0 win.
Italian fans are thrilled and are gearing up for a clash of powerhouses this Tuesday in the Coppa Italia.
AC Milan vs Napoli Head-to-head (h2h)
- Two of the last three games ended as goalless draws.
- Nine of the last ten wins belong to Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
- The last two ties at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza ended scorelessly.
- The Blues have been unbeaten at this venue since 2015.
- Since 2011, II Diavolo has registered just a single h2h win at this venue.
AC Milan vs Napoli Prediction
In typical Italian fashion, we can expect the high-profile game to be a showing of defensive power from either side. It’s no secret that Gattuso prefers a strong backline on top of which he could build solid performances. This season, at home, the team has scored just 16 goals from their 11 league games.
The Parthenopeans have been defensively compact under the new coach, and though the team has better offensive stats than their opponents, it’s mainly thanks to their home-ties. On the road, the players have not been able to replicate their form in the opposition half. To make things clear, the Blues have scored just 14 goals from their ten games away from home in the Serie A.
It’s shaping up to be a low goal-scoring tie this Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the domestic competition.
Casciavit is in the process of rebuilding, and though they may later turn out to be the beast they once used to be, at the moment, the players are not equipped to take up the challenge. Also, recent h2h ties are heavily skewed towards the team from Naples. They have registered nine of the last ten wins in face-to-face meetings, and are also unbeaten at this venue for the last four years.
I expect Carlo Ancelotti’s men to be present in the semis.
