Torino vs Genoa
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Thursday, 22 December 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Turin).
Torino will aim to arrest a disconcerting downward slide as they take on Genoa in their final game of 2016.
After a solid start, the Granata have lost their past three games. This includes a 5-3 drubbing at the hands of Napoli, which surely will not have helped Joe Hart’s confidence. The English shot-stopper has conceded ten goals in his past three games and naturally will hope to redeem himself with a better showing on Thursday evening.
However, there were some positives from their recent loss. Napoli had taken an early 3-0 lead heading into the half-time break, but Torino battled back well to score three goals. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to totally overturn the ultimate result, but it certainly gave the Partenopei a huge scare. Sinisa Mihajlovic, then, will want to use his team’s second-half performance as a motivating factor for this upcoming game. After all, had they played the way they did in the second 45 for the entire match, Torino just may not have ended up on the losing end.
Meanwhile, Genoa will be still reeling after a shock loss to Palermo. That result will be even more frustrating to Ivan Juric considering that his men were just a few minutes away from sealing all three points. However, they conceded two late on to allow the Rosanero to pull off an impressive comeback to win 4-3. From a neutral perspective, it was an interesting game. For Palermo fans, it gave them something to celebrate. But, for Genoa supporters, it left a sour taste in their mouths.
There was concern that fatigue after having to play a makeup fixture with Fiorentina could cost them. It reared its ugly head during the weekend tie with Palermo, and Juric will hope his side can still have enough in the tank in order to avoid dropping further points here.
Giovanni Simeone has been one bright light for the Grifone this season and is currently the team’s top marksman. Will he be able to inspire the team to a much needed win?

Torino vs Genoa: Prediction
Genoa’s shock loss to Palermo will still be on the team’s minds. No one likes to lose, and definitely not at home – and to one of the worst-performing sides in the division. In fact, the Grifone, who had beaten teams like Juventus and AC Milan at their home ground, had not conceded four goals all season until they did so against the Rosanero.
Torino can take advantage of this to halt their own downward slide. Genoa have not impressed in their travels, and in fact, have won just two out of their eight road fixtures. In addition, they have scored in only one out of their past four road games.
